We are currently recruiting for an Aviation Finance Associate for our Global Corporate & Investment Banking Division in Amsterdam .

The MBE subsidiary based in The Netherlands is a network of branches (Germany Branch (Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Munich), Spain Branch (Madrid, Barcelona), Belgium Branch (Brussels), Austria Branch (Vienna)), managed from Amsterdam.

Operate as a member of GAFO (Global Aviation Finance Office) assisting the Origination team in a number of activities to enable the team to provide and deliver robust deals in an optimal manner. It is expected this will include deal pricing, preparation and execution.

The role will include contact with several stakeholders in the Bank across various departments and regions and we would expect the successful applicant to be given client access and ultimately some client responsibility in due course. As junior member of the expanding team, there will be significant opportunity for career progression as we move forward.

Aviation Finance team (Global Aviation Finance Office (GAFO)), is part of the Corporate and Investment Banking Division for EMEA (GCIB). GAFO is managed by a Global Head and was a newly introduced organisation connecting aviation finance teams in EMEA, Asia and US to properly run the aviation finance business seamlessly and consistently on a global basis. Building on our early success and very strong performance throughout COVID, the Bank is now seeking to expand our reach, goals and aspirations which requires, as a first step, GAFO to seek several new joiners across the platform.

GAFO has senior level support and access, and is MUFG’s first sector vertical team with oversight of all aspects of the aviation business within the Bank. This means that within GAFO, we have dedicated credit, portfolio management, Asset Management and Research teams as well as Origination working collaboratively together. As a very flat organisation, all members of GAFO have regular access to senior management.

As an expanding business, GAFO is still developing some aspects and the successful applicant will have the chance to grow with the role helping shape the future of the team and its goals. As a truly Global team, there will also be opportunities to explore assignments in different location in due course as well as with different teams

The role includes the following:

  • Support the senior Originators in their efforts to win new business including attending client meetings where necessary, draft and present Business Screening Memos, prepare credit papers and internal memos.
  • Assist in and ultimately drive pricing discussions and preparing loan profiles, preparing presentations and pitch books in a timely manner.
  • Get involved in wider strategic projects as necessary.
  • Assist and ultimately drive deal execution.
  • Act as an occasional ‘back up’ for the EMEA Origination Administrator on a some of the more administrative tasks / activities, which includes arranging meeting schedules, distributing memos and minutes, and arranging business travel and expense claims.

In order to be successful in the role, you will need the following:

Skills and experience:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a banking environment preferably as part of a team.
  • Experience of dealing and working inclusively with different cultures.
  • Negotiation level English language skills, written and spoken required.
  • Previous aviation industry experience is not essential however a strong desire to be involved in this exciting industry is a requirement.
  • Strong numerical, written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate effectively at all levels (including senior management) and with those from different backgrounds.
  • Ability to distil large amounts of information from various inputs into single concise proposals.
  • Good IT skills – particularly Excel and PowerPoint – are essential although training can be set up to improve a candidates proficiency. Some modelling skills, or at least knowledge of modelling would be a positive.
  • Details conscious, ensuring reliability at all times, and committed to producing high quality and professional work in a team environment.
  • Adaptable and able to act independently or within a team as required.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage ever changing and often conflicting priorities.
  • Ability to deal with people of all types and personalities at all levels.
  • Positive attitude with high energy.
  • Possess a drive to learn and develop with a high level of self-motivation and initiative.
