Architect Security

As an experienced Security Architect you’ll be working in a small team of architects and with all relevant stakeholders. On a larger scale you are member of the Center of Expertise Architects in ING Domestic Bank Netherlands. When applicable you will work with ING colleagues from other areas to ensure alignment. The Opportunity

You will translate business vision and strategy into effective enterprise by creating, communicating and improving the key principles and models that describe the future state and enable its evolution to deliver the IT Architecture for the organization and its customers. You execute the global Business & IT Roadmap process, with centralized designs and (logical) global decompositions, analyze market- and IT-trends and, based on this information, contribute to the strategy of the organization. Draft logical IT-Roadmaps, monitor and manage the progress of the execution of Business & IT-Roadmaps towards the target state and the use of global standards and solutions.

The Team

You will be member of a small team of architects, led by our enterprise architect technical foundation. In creating architecture deliverables, you will work closely with business colleagues, Enterprise Architects, Domain Architects, Feature Engineers, IT managers and Dev/Ops teams.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • You take responsibility to define and maintain the end-to-end security architecture design.
  • You apply the architecture principles, -standards and -guidelines in describing architectures and implementation roadmaps for the upcoming quarters that are feasible to implement, but ambitious enough to move towards our strategic target architecture.
  • You work on projects with high strategic impact, setting a strategy that can be used in the long term and across the breadth of the organization.
  • You communicate with a broad range of senior stakeholders and be responsible for defining the vision, principles, and strategy for security architects
  • You recommend security design across several projects or technologies, up to an organizational or inter-organizational level.
  • Of course, you take important quality criteria like reliability, into account.
  • Architecture governance is an important part of your job. In this context you document agreements with stakeholders on certain solutions, and deviations from architecture. Furthermore, you verify whether the solutions implemented comply with the upfront agreed architecture and report your findings to the enterprise architect.
  • In addition to the domain responsibility, you also contribute to the continuous improvement of your team and CoE Architects, so we get better every day than the day before.

  • You can demonstrate strong knowledge of system architectures, strategies and methodologies on the level of infrastructure, application, platform, data, facility & cloud.
  • You can understand and articulate the impact of vulnerabilities on existing and future designs and systems, and how easy or difficult it will be to exploit these vulnerabilities.
  • You can lead design and review solutions to complex problems with system architectures by defining and challenging patterns and principles. You can create precedents and set direction.
  • You can demonstrate expert understanding of security concepts and can apply them to a technical level, at the highest levels of risk complexity. You can effectively translate and accurately communicate security and risk implications at the most senior levels across technical and non-technical stakeholders. You can successfully respond to challenges.
  • You have experience in implementing automated decentralized security controls to improve system/platform overall security.
  • You have experience in Security of Distributed systems.
  • You have knowledge of Risk and Compliance Management, Operational Models, Business Continuity Plan, Disaster Recovery Plan.
  • You have knowledge and experience with identifying and understanding the most common application security vulnerabilities (OWASP Top 10).
  • You have a deep and evolving level of technical expertise, so you can act as an exemplar
  • You work independently and act as a self-starter toperform architecture activities for incremental changes (the design, advise and presentation of (target) architectures and roadmaps, and the architecture guidance and validations). At the same time, you avoid silos’ thinking by proactively seek collaboration with others to co-create. Therefore, you have co-creation skills (workshops, guiding, constraining, selling, telling) and you have the level of architecture expertise to coach and mentor other architects.
  • You take decisions based on limited information and use indirect influence. You have a long-term perseverance, without becoming dogmatic or rigid.
  • You research, identify, validate and adopt new technologies and methodologies.
  • Master level or equivalent by experience and good written and spoken knowledge of English.
  • You have previous technical background in Web application development/ architecture or related fields JAVA, .NET, PHP, Ruby, Perl, Python and/or C/C++ experience.
  • Having experience with the principles of agile development is highly preferred.
  • You have the ability to travel.
