Financial Controller (Senior Level)

Controller Location: (Rotterdam)

Overall objective: As a Financial Controller, you will support the Chief Finance Officer in the overall finance function, responsible for managing the legal entities. The successful individual will be process-driven, focusing on improvement and efficiency, demonstrating exceptional technical and analytical skills, and building meaningful relationships across business areas while supporting the Senior Finance Controllers and CFO.

Key responsibilities (general):

• Preparing the monthly and quarterly management accounts and annual statutory/regulatory financial statements and filings.
• Preparing tax filings and liaising with tax specialists (CIT, VAT, IPT).
• Assisting and being responsible for Treasury and Club Payments in performing cash transfers (management, credit control, and payments).
• Assisting with the internal, annual, and interim audit process.
• Maintaining the control environment for the financial records of the company, including continuous assessment of its effectiveness as the business grows and evolves.
• Collaborating with different key function holders to understand and document data.
• Proactively recommending improvements to processes and procedures and involvement in their implementation.
• Creating, improving, and automating reporting methods.
• Participating in projects with the CFO, Senior Finance Controllers, Data Team, and other senior executives as required from time to time.
• Monitoring qualitative and timely reporting by our service providers.
• Supporting with other ad hoc finance and administrative tasks.

Person specification (general):

• Bachelor's degree or higher.
• Any accounting/ finance qualification is highly preferred.
• Candidates should have at least 4 years' experience in a financial environment. Some experience within audit is desirable. (Can be from a Big 4 background)
• Strong MS Office skills, and knowledge of relevant software is desirable.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Preferably experience in working in an international environment.
• Numerate, well-organized, strong interpersonal and team-working skills, solutions-oriented, self-starter, and hands-on.
• Willingness to travel as and when required.

Financial Controller:

• Deliver support to the above under supervision of the (senior) Financial Controllers.
• Actively participate in the monthly and annual closing by executing the consolidation and by analyzing the correct and complete accounting of transactions in our G/Ls.
• Assist in the preparation of external reporting to supervisors.
• Assist in the preparation of financial statements of relevant legal entities.
• Assist in the preparation of consolidated financial statements.
• Execute and make suggestions for improvement of and improve our processes and controls.
• No previous insurance experience required.

(Senior):

• Able to perform tasks and activities independently.
• Responsible for the preparation of external reporting to supervisors.
• Responsible for the preparation of financial statements of relevant legal entities.
• Responsible for the preparation of consolidated financial statements.
• Review tasks of other Financial Controllers.
• Primary point of contact for the CFO and service providers (where necessary).
