Climate Finance Lead

Location: Ideally based in Netherlands. We can also consider other locations in Europe.

PURPOSE:

As a Climate Finance Specialist in our Decarbonisation Team, you will play a pivotal role in strategizing and actioning how we finance our wide variety of decarbonisation initiatives across terminals and projects. You have a solid understanding of project finance and asset funding structures. You have experience with a wide range of financing instruments (i.e., bonds/loans/grants/blended finance), but also an understanding of how to use tax incentives and subsidies. Your experience will be crucial in how we optimize our decarbonisation activities across the 40+ geographies we operate.This role naturally requires a balance of financial acumen and a deep understanding of climate-related regulation and policies.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Market Intelligence: Stay actively informed about emerging trends, regulatory affairs, green financing opportunities esp. as it related to maritime/port decarbonization globally, including in emerging economies.
  • Build strategic relationships: with relevant port authorities, government departments, and local and international financiers in close collaboration with Treasury and Public Affairs. Capable of effective engagement at senior level, sharing best practice and advise on the right course of action for a particular investment/country.
  • Identify Opportunities: Research and identify potential sources of financing, including government programs, private funds, and international initiatives focused on environmental sustainability and decarbonization.
  • Proposal Development: Lead the development of proposals and applications for financing and grants, ensuring they align with both the company's decarbonisation goals and the funding entities' requirements.
  • Internal Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal teams, such as finance, tax, operations, public affairs and decarbonisation/Energy Transition.
  • Planning & Reporting: Develop plans and prepare regular reports on the progress and impact of funded projects.

CRITICAL QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • 7+ years of experience in a relevant role/sector
  • Degree qualified in Economics, Finance, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in climate financing, grant writing, or a related area.
  • Strong understanding of environmental sustainability, regulatory affairs and decarbonisation strategies in the maritime or transportation sector.
  • Passion and high interest in decarbonisation and emerging technology and/or maritime sector (particularly the container terminals); or appetite and ability to go through a steep learning curve over a short period of time.
  • Established network of relevant contacts, experts, business and institutes to leverage for the job
  • Ability to handle risks and uncertainties. Flexibility in adapting when priorities change. Comfort with challenging the status quo and motivation to lead change
  • Strong prioritization abilities and can-do mindset; Ability to balance short term deliverables and long-term business objectives
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and project management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills. Ability to influence and coordinate without authority and facilitate effective discussions
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication
  • Mobility as some travel might be required in this role
