As an experienced Cloud Architect you’ll be working in a small team of architects and with all relevant stakeholders. On a larger scale you are member of the Center of Expertise Architects in ING Domestic Bank Netherlands. When applicable you will work with ING colleagues from other areas to ensure alignment. The Team

You will be member of a small team of architects, led by our enterprise architect Technology Foundation. In creating architecture deliverables, you will work closely with business colleagues, Enterprise Architects, Domain Architects, Feature Engineers, IT managers and Dev/Ops teams from Retail Netherlands Bank as well as with other departments from ING Group(e.g. ING Infrastructure, ING Banking Technology, CISO, etc.)

Roles & Responsibilities

You will translate business vision and strategy into effective enterprise by creating, communicating and improving the key principles and models that describe the future state and enable its evolution to deliver the IT Architecture for the organization and its customers. You execute the global Business & IT Roadmap process, with centralized designs and (logical) global decompositions, analyze market- and IT-trends and, based on this information, contribute to the strategy of the organization. Draft logical IT-Roadmaps, monitor and manage the progress of the execution of Business & IT-Roadmaps towards the target state and the use of global standards and solutions.

• Maintain thought leadership role in cloud technology, remaining up to date on offerings of various cloud service providers.
• Responsible for the overall architecture of Hybrid cloud platforms and components that comprise it.
• Provide expert level guidance on Cloud design decisions, standards, and operational practices.
• Be an active member of Cloud center of excellence to define and govern best practices in Cloud platforms engineering, cloud operations, cloud-native application development, and cloud platform governance.
• You apply the architecture principles, -standards and -guidelines in describing architectures and implementation roadmaps for the upcoming quarters that are feasible to implement, but ambitious enough to move towards our strategic target architecture.
• You work on projects with high strategic impact, setting a strategy that can be used in the long term and across the breadth of the organization.
• You communicate with a broad range of senior stakeholders and be responsible for defining the vision, principles, and strategy for security architects
• Of course, you take important quality criteria like reliability, into account.
• Architecture governance is an important part of your job. In this context you document agreements with stakeholders on certain solutions, and deviations from architecture. Furthermore, you verify whether the solutions implemented comply with the upfront agreed architecture and report your findings to the enterprise architect.
• In addition to the domain responsibility, you also contribute to the continuous improvement of your team and CoE Architects, so we get better every day than the day before.

• Experience in delivering large scale distributed enterprise platforms with focus on performance, scale, security, and reliability.
• Experience in DevOps and GitOps models with infra-as-code, config-as-code, policy-as-code, etc. with technologies such as Terraform.
• Experience with on-premises based Private Cloud and Public Cloud platforms such as Azure, and Google Cloud.
• Have deep knowledge of web protocols, Linux and/or Windows operating systems, and AWS, Azure, IBM Cloud and/or Google APIs and environments.
• Experience in native orchestration stacks (e.g., Azure ARM templates, AWS CloudFormation, Google Cloud Deployment Manager)
• Experience in container-native technologies such as Kubernetes, container native virtualization, network, etc.
• Experience in cloud-native logging, monitoring, tracing and operations tools – Jagger, Prometheus, ELK, etc.
• Experience with containers related technologies and CICD tools – pipelines, container repos, etc.
• Experience in infra-automation tools and general programming languages – Ansible, Java, python, etc.
• Must have solid understanding and work experience in one or more of the following:
  • Cloud IAM
  • Cloud network and security design
  • Cloud Storage
  • Cloud Compute
  • Cloud IaaS design, including image creation
  • Cloud Well Architecture Frameworks and reviews
  • Native cloud services (i.e., CosmosDB, BigTable, etc.)
  • Cloud-native Kubernetes services (AKS, GKE, EKS) design and implementation
  • Red Hat Openshift public cloud design and implementation
• Experience with configuration management and automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, CloudFormation, Salt
• Experience in test-driven development and domain drivven design.
• You can lead design and review solutions to complex problems with system architectures by defining and challenging patterns and principles. You can create precedents and set direction.
• You work independently and act as a self-starter toperform architecture activities for incremental changes (the design, advise and presentation of (target) architectures and roadmaps, and the architecture guidance and validations). At the same time, you avoid silos’ thinking by proactively seek collaboration with others to co-create. Therefore, you have co-creation skills (workshops, guiding, constraining, selling, telling) and you have the level of architecture expertise to coach and mentor other architects.
• You take decisions based on limited information and use indirect influence. You have a long-term perseverance, without becoming dogmatic or rigid.
• You research, identify, validate and adopt new technologies and methodologies.
• Mandatory good written and spoken knowledge of English and nice to have knowledge of Dutch.
• Having experience with the principles of agile development is highly preferred.
• You have the ability to travel.
