FORTNA’s International Business is a newly formed organization that combines all FORTNA businesses outside of North America into one organization led by an International President. The International business designs and builds omnichannel distribution centers globally for leading companies. By leveraging FORTNA’s automation, software and robotics capabilities, International enables its customers to outpace their competition with highly efficient distribution and sortation systems that operate at high scale. 

The business is project oriented, with typical projects valued from $10M to $250M or higher, and lasting one to two years in duration. A service operation supports customer’s completed projects. This is a high growth business requiring an high energy individual to assist the team grow the business to over 1 billion (Euros and USD).

POSITION SUMMARY:

The International CFO is the financial partner to the International President, providing financial leadership in all aspects of the business. In this role, the incumbent works with the business team to grow revenues, expand operating margins, manage the balance sheet and generate cash flow. The incumbent works to ensure that disciplined financial processes are established and maintained.

The International business has operating teams throughout Europe, South Africa as well as software development and light manufacturing in Asia. The incumbent operates in a multi-cultural environment with differing regulatory requirements.

The position works with the International team on business development through project execution activities. Key activities include:

  • Analysis of the business pipeline,
  • Ensuring accurate project cost estimates
  • Evaluating and contributing to new project bids, including assisting with billing and schedules optimize cash flow
  • Ensuring a competitive cost structure
  • Overseeing the financial performance of projects and making recommendations where appropriate

Overall, the person is expected to instill a culture of growth and financial discipline.

On a recurring basis, this position works with the International President to develop and achieve current quarter forecast, quarterly rolling forecasts, annual budgets and periodic long-range business and financial plans.

The incumbent is responsible for managing and advising the International team on working capital management and cash flow generation, constantly evaluating ways to improve performance. The incumbent also develops and manages the annual capital expenditure program for the International business.

The incumbent is expected to develop an in-depth understanding of International’s commercial markets and internal business processes, and must have the ability to communicate clearly and work across functions globally at a senior level. Additionally, the incumbent is expected to provide leadership and a close working relationship with all finance personnel across multiple geographic jurisdictions, including those in Europe, South Africa and Asia. An operational and strategic mindset is required.

The International CFO develops and maintains the International financial infrastructure including:

  • Staffing
  • Systems

All in alignment with FORTNA corporate CFO and headquarters financial staff.

The incumbent financially supports mergers and acquisition initiatives as they arise.

While FORTNA Treasury is managed from the corporate headquarters, the International CFO works with the Treasury team and local banks to ensure smooth banking operations.

The incumbent works with the following peers to ensure the International business is operating within the standardized global policies and initiatives

  • Chief Accounting Officer for all accounting and financial policies
  • Treasury for cash flow forecast/achievement and foreign currency management
  • VP Financial Planning and Analysis for all forecasts, budgets and plans
  • Americas CFO for all supply chain financial management (manufacturing and procurement)
  • Corporate tax for development of tax strategies and compliance 
  • Project Controls for project setup, monitoring, close out and accounting

The International CFO helps to manage the daily activities of the International financial staff. Accounting and FP&A staff report solid line to the corporate leaders and dotted line to the International CFO. All other financial staff report solid line to the International CFO. The individual collaborates and operates well across a matrix organization.

This position reports to the FORTNA CFO and has a dual reporting relationship to the International President. The International CFO is a key member of the FORTNA leadership team.

Partnership. A key aspect of this role involves viewing finance as a strategic business partner, supporting and facilitating decision-making processes across the organization.

Change Management. The incumbent exhibits a readiness to not only operate but also innovate financial teams, processes, and tools. Experience in dynamic, rapidly evolving environments, coupled with proficiency in managing complexity, is essential.

Cultural Fit and International Experience. A demonstrated ability to work with diverse cultures, regions, and working environments.

Technical Skills. The candidate should have a deep understanding of ERP systems and data analytic tools, and have strong analytical capabilities enabling efficient interpretation and utilization of financial data. 

Communication and Influencing Skills. Exceptional communication and influencing skills are imperative, enabling effective interaction with C-level executives, superintendents, and cross-functional teams. Periodically the incumbent support sales efforts and engages with customers when necessary.

Decision-making and Problem-solving. The International CFO is a decisive problem solver, capable of making informed decisions swiftly to address financial challenges and opportunities.

Team Player and Energetic. A collaborative mindset and high energy level are essential traits for this role, fostering teamwork and driving positive organizational culture.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MBA preferred
  • Minimum of 15 years of Business and Finance experience in International business
  • Has led the international financial operations of a global business
  • Has worked in a company using US GAAP and is familiar with the SOX internal control framework
  • Has managed a team of 30+ finance professionals
  • Strong business management skills – P&L, operations, commercial, financial, strategic
  • Strong analytical abilities and enjoys working in a fast paced environment 
  • Clear thinking / problem solving, successfully lead cross-functional projects
  • Skilled influencer, able to communicate complex messages and drive change
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, time management and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to travel – both domestic and international
  • Exposure to private equity portfolio company practices may be helpful
  • M&A experience
  • Prior experience with PowerBi and Infor ERP system helpful
  • Excellent communication skills: experience working across multiple levels (including executive level), functions and regions; able to clearly communicate complex financial information in an easy-to-understand manner; able to deliver message effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Confidence / Assertiveness: possess influencing skills across business functions.
  • Integrity: Accepting and adhering to high moral, ethical, and personal values in decisions, communications, actions, and when dealing with others.
  • The FORTNA International headquarters is in Houten, The Netherlands. The incumbent will ideally reside nearby Houten, though other EMEA locations will be considered
