Wolters Kluwer is looking for an experienced Associate Director, External Communications , with an extensive network in PR and media, both in the Netherlands and globally .

As a direct report to the Senior Director of External Communications, you will be a member of the Global Communications team and responsible for raising the overall visibility of Wolters Kluwer. This includes the company, as well as its executives, products, services, thought leadership, and financial results and reporting, primarily in Netherlands-based media. You will also serve as the Global Communications’ team point person on crisis communications matters.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Media Relations

  • Develop and execute comprehensive external communications/media relations strategies, plans, and activities in support of the Company’s strategic objectives in the Netherlands and, where appropriate, beyond

  • Provide strategic communications counsel to the Executive Team as a seasoned, confident external communications professional with an excellent sense of judgment and the ability to earn trust.

  • Manage and develop externally focused communications materials to include but not be limited to: press releases, stand-by statements, news alerts, media briefings, targeted emails to editors/reporters, FAQs, blog and social media posts, and bylined articles.

  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with key media outlets, industry publications and other influencers - pitch stories to key publications with a planned and regular cadence. 

  • Create media/analyst meeting opportunities for executives and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), in support of strategic divisional plans and objectives.

  • Define desired outcomes of external communications initiatives, including quantitative and qualitative measures.

  • Support the media relations efforts of Benelux related businesses.

Financial Communications

  • Lead all media aspects of the quarterly earnings press release process and results promotion in the media.

  • Partner closely with Investor Relations on all aspects of the Annual Report and Annual General Meeting.

  • Issue press releases on company financial transactions.

  • Update Wolters Kluwer’s website as needed in support of the above.

Crisis Communications

  • Review, update and govern all crisis communications documents include templates, plans and messaging.

  • Maintain and refresh all crisis communications internal presentations.

  • Partner with the Business Continuity Team as needed.

  • Learn and become an expert and internal advocate of the Wolters Kluwer Incident Management approach.

Your profile

  • BA/BS degree in communications, journalism, literature or related field preferred.

  • 10+ years of communications experience (within a corporate or agency environment).

  • Existing set of strong global media contacts across Tier 1 media, trade publications, and broadcast, including contacts in the Dutch media.

  • Experience with crisis communications.

  • Experience leading or supporting financial communications at a large organization.

  • Fluent in Dutch and English.
