Founded in 2013, the company is headquartered in San Francisco with offices in New York, Washington D.C., London and Amsterdam. #LI-Remote

We’re looking for a senior compliance professional to lead our compliance team in the UK and Europe. This individual will act as Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) for the UK and be part of Plaid’s UK Board of Directors, and be the Compliance Lead for the EU in support of the Director of Compliance and Risk in the Netherlands. You’ll help us mature and scale our UK and European compliance program, and will be responsible for building a fit-for-purpose compliance strategy, and for overseeing the effectiveness of Plaid’s UK and European systems and controls. You’ll have responsibility for Plaid’s compliance with all applicable requirements under UK, Dutch, and European legislation. You’ll serve a lead role in a team that ensures Plaid remains at all times in good regulatory standing in the UK and the Netherlands.

The ideal candidate should have experience working in a regulated Fintech environment, with a deep understanding of requirements applicable to Plaid’s business under the Payment Services Regulations, Electronic Money Regulations, and AML/CTF regulations in the UK and Europe. This candidate should have a proven record of building a compliance program that takes into consideration a risk-based approach and Plaid’s special regulatory position. Plaid’s UK and European businesses are developing products on the cutting edge of payments and open banking activity, and we’ll be counting on you to help ensure we’ve got appropriate systems and controls in place.

We’re looking for the sort of person who is as comfortable presenting to senior leaders as they are rolling up their sleeves and diving into the details of individual processes and customers. If you’re interested in a forward-thinking role within an ambitious and dynamic company, and pride yourself on seeing around corners and connecting dots, we’d love to talk to you!

Responsibilities
  • Managing and enhancing a second line Compliance and AML/CTF function at a dynamic company, while supporting ongoing operations.
  • Being a leader within the team. You recognize that leading with humility and influence rather than authority is typically more effective.
  • Building a compliance function that can support new license applications, maintain existing licenses, and support operations under future regulatory obligations or licenses
  • Leading and improving all elements of a Compliance program, including: creating Board of Directors, partner, and regulatory reporting; performing monitoring and testing activities; maintaining and drafting policies and procedures; overseeing staff compliance training; advising on product development; and advising on the effectiveness of existing systems and controls and Plaid’s risk and compliance standing
  • Overseeing all activity relating to anti-money laundering, such as carrying out investigations and suspicious activity reporting.
  • Overseeing Plaid’s UK and European business from a 2LoD position.
  • Being the point of contact for regulators; law enforcement; external auditors; and Compliance vendors.
Qualifications
  • Experience as a MLRO, Head of Compliance, or Deputy at a PSD2 regulated organization, preferably with experience in both regions (UK and NL or other EU member state)
  • Deep subject matter expertise in regulatory compliance and financial crime risks, while understanding Plaid’s regulatory position as TPP and the associated risks.
  • Experience balancing cross-functional stakeholders pushing in different directions. This role will reward entrepreneurial and creative problem solvers who approach challenges with curiosity and a solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to manage people, earn their confidence, optimize their productivity, and nurture their career growth
  • Experience managing relationships with regulators and auditors, and filing regulatory reports
  • The ability to juggle multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with deep attention to detail
  • A good sense of humor and a “roll up your sleeves” attitude
  • ICA, CAMS or other relevant professional qualifications
