Purpose & Context

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Head of Financial Control & Reporting in the Netherlands to join our dynamic team. The Head of Financial Control & Reporting will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial reporting, ensuring accuracy, compliance with regulatory requirements, and providing strategic insights to senior management.

The Head of Financial Control & Reporting NL reports directly to the AAM CFO (and will also have a functional reporting line to the Head of AAM Financial Control & Reporting based in the USA).

Key Responsibilities:

Position to be seen as a legal entity Finance Director type of role with the following key responsibilities:

  • Ultimately responsible for all legal entity reporting (internal, external, managerial, regulatory)
  • Ultimately responsible for the quality of the finance control environment, SOx, ISAE, SOC reports
  • Primary point of contact for a wide variety of stakeholders (legal entity board, regulator, internal audit, external audit, risk management etc.)
  • As member of the AAM CFO MT, also jointly responsible for the delivery of the CFO roadmap and for the CFO team’s employee engagement and wellbeing
  • Responsible to act as a local culture carrier in the Netherlands (regardless of whether finance staff reports to this person) act as a go to person for all local Finance employees

In particular, key responsibilities include:

Closing process and periodic internal reporting

  • Managing and overseeing the day-to-day administration of multiple AAM entities including the monthly closing process of these entities;
  • Prepare and deliver periodic internal reporting of AAM entities to Aegon Group and the AAM NL management board.

Financial statements preparation

  • Prepare semi-annual and annual financial statements for multiple AAM entities including the audit process of the AAM NL management company.

Regulatory Reporting

  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of monthly/quarterly Finrep, IFD/IFR, MESRAP, MER, CBS, IDEP reports to the Dutch National Bank (DNB) and Statistics Netherlands (CBS);
  • Prepare the Internal Capital Adequacy and Risk Assessment Process (ICARAP) periodically.

Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable

  • Managing and overseeing the accurate and timely invoicing of clients;
  • Managing and overseeing the accounts payable process including supplier invoicing and credit card process;
  • Maintain control over the management company's balance sheet and income statement, including management fees, expenses, and debtors.

Team Development

  • Develop and motivate staff within the Finance team to ensure high performance and professional growth (4-5 FTE).

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a numeric subject (Economics, Accounting, Finance), or simular, or related field;
  • A post graduate qualification in auditing (CPA, CA, RA or equivalent) or controlling (EMFC, RC or equivalent);
  • in total typically a minimum of 12 years of (relevant) experience, for example at a big 4 audit firm, or in an international finance function;
  • Strong understanding of regulatory reporting requirements, including Dutch GAAP, IFD/IFR, Finrep and ICARAP;
  • Vision on an experience with finance automation efforts;
  • Proven track record in effective stakeholder management;
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to motivate and develop a team.

Who will be your new colleagues?

The Finance function within AAM Global consists of 2 sub functions: Financial Control & Reporting and Financial Planning and Management Information. Together we are 34 employees who are working in 4 different locations: The Hague, Groningen, Edinburgh and Cedar Rapids (US). The place of employment for this role is The Hague. As of 2025, Aegon Asset Management will move to the World Trade Center at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport.

Financial Control & Reporting consists of separate teams per AAM legal entity and are focused on the administration and reporting of AAM’s legal entities. The Financial Planning & Management Information function is focused on financial business partnering and providing management information (Actuals and Forecast/Budget) to the AAM’s Global business.
