Market volatility is increasing, competition is intense. The importance of risk management, cost control and sound cash flow management is crucial. The context of the role is therefore very dynamic.

The transformation to a more digital and data-driven company with a modern IT stack and a strong performance culture has started but is not yet complete. The CFC&R director plays an important role in making these transformative shifts successful.

As Director Group Finance & Risk you are responsible for setting up and executing a strategy to set up, improve and guarantee undisputable financial accounting and reporting processes. In doing so you support the Management Board and Business with relevant, clear and reliable insights. Combining value creation and rewards with a sound risk appetite strategy.

Your focus will be various key areas of our finance organization:

  • Group Control (GC) – Business Partner to Eneco’s MB, responsible for providing the Management Board and the business with relevant / clear / reliable insight in reporting and forecasting;
  • Financial Risk Management (FRM): responsible for Eneco’s risk policy and the Commodity/Credit Risk Mandate Framework. Also responsible for identifying, controlling, monitoring, and reporting of commodity as well as counterparty credit risks of Eneco Energy Trading and our EU business;
  • Operational Risk Management (ORM): for maintaining the Eneco Control Risk System (ECRS)/risk control framework. ORM is responsible for providing the insights in risk and mitigations through risk heat charts reporting as well as facilitating the process which is the basis of the ‘in control’ statement signed by the Management Board;
  • Corporate Tax department responsible for Eneco's tax strategy and ultimately responsible for proper tax compliance and Eneco’s (legal) position during tax audits and legal tax proceedings;
  • Treasury department: responsible for the financing strategy aimed at optimal capital structuring including external and internal financing (Financing Management), liquidity management (Treasury Operations) and control of financial risk with regard to interest, currency, liquidity, credit rating (Treasury Risk Management);
  • Insurance management: responsible for the insurance structure and cover policy with the aim of optimizing the risk coverage versus premium expenses. Insurance management mainly works on insurance issues at Group-wide level.

This means that you have six direct reports, and you are responsible for 85 FTE in total.

In this role you are also the sparring partner for the Management Board and business management teams in their strategy and business considerations and project structuring. Improving the financial management and risk management control frameworks is key focus in establishing necessary financial rigor in a turbulent market environment in which Eneco operates. You are a member of the Finance Core Team, Strategic Leadership Team and has regular contact with the Management Board, the Supervisory Board and the Workers Council, as well as with BU-MT members, the various disciplines within Eneco. You will also take part in the Investment Review Team and Commodity Risk Team and maintain contact with various external parties (including external accountants, advisors, capital providers, credit rating agency,etc.).

Your responsibilities

  • Contribute to the realization of Eneco’s mission, strategy, culture values and desired position as front-runner in the energy transition;
  • Drive the finance transformation in strengthening the financial infrastructure with policies & procedures, processes and systems as a precondition for financial rigor.
  • Ensure relevant/clear/reliable insight for management control and accountability reporting.
  • Arranges affordable and sustainable financing for the realization of Eneco’s strategy.
  • Responsible for operational and financial risk management frameworks detailing risk and control aspects in order to ensure the control, predictability and compliance within Eneco and support the business in achieving a sound balance between value/reward versus risk.
  • Maintains close contact with the CFO, Strategic Leadership Team and business management teammembers.
  • Ensures that the teams are highly motivated and ensures that knowledge of the various fields of expertise are up to standard. This to enhance a performance culture within Group Finance & Risk.
  • Sets up and maintains close relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

What you bring

  • Academic background and strong all-round financial profile with a proven track-record in financial and business and group controlling, treasury/financing, international tax and riskmanagement;
  • Over 15 years’ experience in various senior financial management positions, preferably in an international setting;
  • Proven track record in providing leadership, driving transformations, building teams;
  • Digital savvy;
  • Strong leadership skills: ability to inspire large audiences, lead transformation and drive change, deliver results across BUs and countries (including functional leadership without solid lines), pro-active and strong stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills, trusted business partner;
  • Knowledge of functional financial expertise and regulations across wide topics (group control, financial/operational risk management, tax, treasury, insurance);
  • Knowledge of the energy markets, (renewable) products & services.
