This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic advancement team and play a key role within a premier university.

The University of Maryland College Park Foundation (UMCP Foundation) was established in 2000 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation organized to receive, hold, invest, and manage assets given in support of the University of Maryland, College Park. In the years since its inception, the UMCP Foundation has achieved growth, expansion, and excellence while advancing the State of Maryland’s flagship campus on its ascent as a preeminent public research institution and global leader in entrepreneurship and innovation.

In close partnership and collaboration with the Vice President for University Relations, the CFO provides leadership, management, and strategic direction to the UMCP Foundation and the Division of University Relations (UR). The CFO will manage and oversee all aspects of financial management for UR as well as investment management and treasury services.

The CFO will represent the University in multiple internal and external constituencies. They will report directly to the Vice President (VP) of University Relations and serve on the VP’s Senior Leadership team. The CFO will direct a team of 16, with four direct reports. Following the monumental success of the Fearless Ideas campaign, which more than doubled Maryland’s now $1.2 billion endowment, the new CFO will be a significant leader in the design and planning of the next campaign, which is currently in the silent phase and will publicly launch in fall 2025.

This is an onsite role based in College Park, MD.

The successful CFO candidate will:

  • Manage and oversee all aspects of Financial Management for the division of University Relations (UR) and Investment Management & Treasury Services. Oversee business processes and improvements, including internal policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with strategic goals, operational excellence, efficiency, consistency, and compliance across the university.
  • Collaborate directly with university financial and business professionals embedded in the University’s Schools, Colleges, and Units to implement and regularly educate on processes and procedures that ensure philanthropic funds are utilized in a timely manner and according to donor intent.
  • Provide leadership, management, and strategic direction to UR. Serve as a senior member of the cabinet of the Vice President for University Relations (UR).
  • Serve as the Vice President and Treasurer/CFO of the University of Maryland College Park Foundation, responsible for the business operations, systems, procedures, and inter- and intra-university relationships.
  • Formulate a multi-year budget plan utilizing University, UMCP Foundation, and USM Foundation resources. Advise the Vice President for University Relations (UR) on all budgetary matters within UR.

The ideal candidate will possess 12 or more years of successful and progressively responsible financial leadership in higher education, non-profit, or similarly complex and decentralized operations. They will be innovative leaders with proven experience solving problems. They should also have demonstrated experience managing finance and operations teams and processes. A B.S. in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field is required, with a CPA or MBA preferred.
