Sr. Legal Counsel Sustainability

32-40 hours per week

As a Sr. Legal Counsel Sustainability, you will work with a multi-disciplinary team of in-house lawyers, advising and supporting legal work relating to the EU Sustainable finance strategy and all rules related to sustainability. You will working closely with your legal colleagues in your team and throughout the legal teams within Triodos Bank. In Triodos Bank you will work, in your role as the main legal advisor for applying the sustainable legislation in close cooperation with all your business colleagues throughout the Europe working on serving our clients, on impact management, business changes within overarching business projects and implementing regulatory changes.

What’s your focus

  • Supporting the Group-level organization in all legal/regulatory matters related to sustainable finance regulations.
  • Keeping up to date with and analysing existing and upcoming regulations in the area of sustainable finance.
  • Translating the gained knowledge into practical legal advice and answers to questions from the various internal stakeholders.
  • Be the sparring partner for your legal area in strategic decision making on the mission of Triodos Bank, by keeping pace with the fast-evolving regulatory sustainable finance environment.
  • Contributing to Triodos Bank’s ‘Change Finance’ agenda by supporting advocacy efforts with your legal expertise and knowledge.

Profiel

How you will make a difference

This is you

  • 5-10 years of working experience in a law firm or relevant legal function in a banking or financial services sector, non-governmental organization or government authority
  • Possesses a Dutch law qualification, possibly supplemented by (international) financial law specialist training
  • Strong knowledge of EU sustainable finance regulation
  • Demonstrable working experience in providing legal advice and/or supporting in the implementation of SFDR, MiFID 2 ESG amendments, EU Taxonomy Regulation, CSRD, ESG risk management, ESG Pillar 3 disclosures, EU Green Bond Framework, sustainability due diligence
  • Experience with, or willingness to rapidly acquire knowledge on, consumer protection with a sharp focus on greenwashing requirements, combined with the capacity to critically assess sustainability claims against the rapidly evolving legal standards for greenwashing
  • Familiarity with international best practices (OECD Guidelines, UNGPs), voluntary (decarbonization) commitments (SBTi, NZBA) and sustainability/green/social bond frameworks (ICMA GB Principles)
  • Basic knowledge of MiFID 2 is appreciated
  • Besides knowledge, you really enjoy and have the capacity to analyze regulations and translate the analysis into concrete actions to be taken
  • Stakeholder management is one of your core competences! You understand the (international) business within Triodos Bank Group and know how to help them. You will liaise with an international community of Legal Counsels and coordinate their activities in your legal field
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills in English and preferably also Dutch.
  • Thorough and at the same time practical/pragmatic
  • Proactive and hands-on, self-motivated, flexible and independent
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Good personal project management skills and handling day to day issues

The team

The General Legal Affairs Team is directly managed by the Head of General Legal Affairs. This team currently consists of four employees within Legal Operations and six Legal Counsels. You will replace the present sr. Legal Counsel on Sustainable finance. We are responsible for day-to-day legal support at group level and for supporting the local legal teams with our knowledge of rules and regulations at European level in relation to Triodos Bank Group's organisational non-directly product activities. Together with other Legal teams, the team is part of Triodos Bank Group's wider Legal Community, consisting of around 40 colleagues. You will report to the Head of General Legal Affairs and act independently within your responsibilities.
