Director of Laboratory Services

WittKieffer is excited to lead the search to find Ozarks Healthcare’s next Director of Laboratory Services. This is an exciting opportunity to join a health system serving south central Missouri and north central Arkansas. Ozarks Healthcare system of care encompasses a 114-bed acute care hospital along with 8 primary care and 15 specialty clinics whose 1,300 employees serve the 11-county area. Ozarks Healthcare first opened in 1959 as a 42-bed facility and has grown over the intervening years to serve the growing region. Today, Ozarks Healthcare is a Joint Commission-accredited regional facility with a strong core of primary care physicians along with numerous specialists. Most recently, Ozarks Healthcare embarked on the largest expansion in its history with a $70 million investment to expand the West Plains facility and upgrade its electronic health record. Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the Laboratory Services Director oversees all operations with accountability and responsibility for fiscal, quality, safety, and other identified outcomes. They ensure profitable growth and are responsible for strategic business planning, program development, and maintaining exceptional quality in laboratory and pathology services. The Director collaborates with the Vice President of Operations on various projects such as strategic planning and specific initiatives. Additionally, they perform related duties as assigned, always aligning their actions with the organization’s mission, vision, and values. The laboratory services comprised of eight rural outpatient locations, all regulated by CLIA or CAP standards. The primary lab services are situated in the hospital’s emergency department. Oversight currently includes pathology and blood bank, managed in collaboration with a contracted pathologist from Columbia, MO. The Director must be a critical thinker, motivated to develop and enhance laboratory services through technology and efficiency improvements to achieve cost savings. They should possess in-depth knowledge of state and laboratory regulations and be able to advance laboratory services accordingly. This is an onsite role based in West Plains, MO. The successful Director of Laboratory Services candidate will: Plan for, develop, and effectively manage departmental budget such that resources are deployed effectively and efficiently; and achieve fiscal targets. Ensure compliance with rules and regulations related to all regulatory agencies and accrediting bodies. Establish and implement policies, objectives, and procedures for monitoring and maintaining quality within the departments. Develop marketing strategies and implementation of business plans and growth strategies. Implement community relations programs to develop site specific promotional strategies, branding, and improve community health. Increase market share. Monitor and implement service excellence processes to improve patient satisfaction and to reach the targeted outcomes for patient satisfaction. The preferred candidate will possess five or more years of progressive leadership/supervisory experience within the service line. A Bachelor’s degree is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.
