Our client is a main contractor in construction and maintenance of telecom infrastructure and has about 2,000 employees. Due to the rapidly increasing demand for high quality and fast (fiber optic) connections, the company is growing rapidly.

The company is expanding rapidly in the Benelux countries, Germany and Denmark.

The function

You will report to the Manager of Purchasing. He leads a team of 4 operational buyers, an ERP/process analyst and 4 tactical buyers. Three tactical buyers deal mainly with projects and the 4th (vacancy) with material procurement. As a materials buyer, you will transcend projects and contribute significantly to their success.

Your main duties are:

Functionally (substantively) manage the 4 operational buyers.

You will prioritize and be the 1st point of contact for them for questions and escalations.

Sourcing, selecting and contracting (new) suppliers, with vendor management and doing any claim negotiations. But also doing year negotiations, auditing suppliers (or having them audited), etc.

And finally, forecasting calls. Without materials no project, but forecasting is tricky. You will have to ask tough questions and have many conversations with various internal and external stakeholders before you have gathered all the information you need to make a good forecast. Your internal network must therefore be in excellent order and the relationship with your suppliers is very important to know what is going on so you can take it into account.

You will be responsible for a spend of 50 to 60 million euros. Categories you procure include (fiber optic) cables, underground telecom equipment as well as materials needed for cell phone masts as well as indirect items such as excavators. Our client is a major player in the market so you will have a strong negotiating position.

Salary up to €78,000 depending on the experience you bring.

All on the basis of 38 hours and the collective bargaining agreement for small metal and engineering.
