(Associate) Director Cancer Antigen Discovery

We are searching for an accountable, multitalented scientific leader with strong expertise in cancer genomics and computational biology to lead our cancer vaccine target discovery team. The Antigen Discovery and Validation group is based at the CureVac site in Amsterdam (CureVac Netherlands) consisting of a multi-disciplinary team of genomics, bioinformatics, molecular biology, and immunology experts. The primary goal of the team is the identification of cancer antigens as targets for various off-the-shelf and personalized vaccine programs. Further efforts are aimed at broadening the profiling of tumor samples and the tumor micro-environment using a diverse array of omics technologies complemented with immunology assays. The candidate is expected to have several years of leadership experience in an academic and/or company setting, as proven by an outstanding track record of publications and patents in the field of cancer genomics and computational biology. Besides fulfilling the role as scientific leader of the cancer antigen discovery team, the ideal candidate is expected to efficiently communicate antigen discovery efforts throughout the organization and participate in multidisciplinary project teams. They should be able to pro-actively contribute to a strong team spirit and be able to stimulate a positive working environment, as well as promoting scientific excellence.

(Associate) Director (f/m/d) Cancer Antigen Discovery


  • Lead a team of cancer genomics and computational scientists (~8 FTEs)
  • Participate in global project teams to represent the cancer antigen discovery team
  • Identify and initiate possibilities to collaborate with academic and industrial partners to accelerate the discovery of novel cancer antigens
  • Engage with scientists within CureVac to drive the development of novel cancer vaccines towards the clinic
  • Ensure that the local research infrastructure is functioning well and that novel technological opportunities are implemented
  • Drive scientific developments towards clinical programs in oncology

  • PhD in bioinformatics, genomics or cancer biology or a related field
  • Broad knowledge of tumor biology
  • Proven track record of building computational solutions for mining cancer omics data
  • Proven (scientific) leadership skills
  • High flexibility and ability to form strong research teams
  • Deep expertise in various omics technologies including but not limited to next generation sequencing
  • Strong understanding of bioinformatics and programming languages to solve genomics analytical questions
  • Experience within statistical data analysis, machine learning and big cancer omics datasets
  • High motivation, strategic thinking and solution-orientation
  • Several years of relevant leadership and scientific experience evidenced in peer reviewed publications/patent submissions
  • Fluency in English
