Job Description

The Technical & Facility Manager plans and directs the activities of a technical team (project engineering; process engineering and maintenance) and manages and coordinates activities related to assigned facilities and grounds including operations (maintenance and repairs), construction and renovation projects, energy management, facility assessment and reporting and services management and standardization. Acting as an internal service provider for production, aiming to deliver in accordance with EHS objectives, quality, service and costs.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide project management and technical leadership and assist senior and top management in the preparation and evaluation of standard policies and programs involving new or improved facilities.
  • Perform people management duties; train, support, positively influence and evaluate team members. Ensure individual, team and organizational goals are achieved.
  • Accountable for departmental budget and project deliverables. Secure and allocate appropriate resources and manage project to meet Departmental goals and achieve financial objectives. Major responsibilities are focussed on a reliable, cost efficient production process.
  • Lead process engineering tasks as process optimization, develop robust processes. Trigger and control Capex projects.
  • Lead cross-functional team on projects. Communicate and work with all levels of the organization. Manage a large multi-function program or a set of projects. Interact with colleagues, suppliers and customers.
  • Strong awareness of competition and impact of strategies and tactics in the marketplace.
    Apply specific technologies to projects.
  • Leverage internal/external experts in network to accomplish goals.
  • Act as technical sparring partner for the Facility Manager of Oegstgeest and Leiden.
  • Monitor progress on schedule, budget and technical output. Provide guidance to the team on projects.
  • Manages the process for preparing cost estimates, negotiating contracts, ensuring compliance to Avery Dennison supplier qualification processes, inspection of completed work for conformance to specification, and supplier relationship management for facility and technical related services and projects.
  • Manage the internal security system, security policies and procedures. Ensure building security system is in good working order.
  • Support EH&S to ensure safe facilities and working conditions – (Disaster Recovery Planning, OSHA, Fire, Security, Emergency Response).
  • Supervises employees or outside contractors who construct, maintain, and repair utilities systems, buildings, and equipment.
  • Ensures that all systems are fully operational and inspected in accordance with preventive maintenance schedules. Sets priorities and performs forecasting and allocates the resources needed to complete all preventive and corrective maintenance tasks.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of space-planning procedures, rental techniques and lease terms, and all matters pertaining to the management and maintenance of property.
  • Responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and controlling facility maintenance to ensure proper safety, sanitation, and mechanical functions for all buildings, grounds, and equipment.
  • Lead Process technology transfer to manufacturing. Understand and articulate how emerging technologies can be applied in manufacturing.
  • Develop, analyze and manage Technical & Facility Departmental Budgets
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field. Facility Certifications from IFMA/BOMA a plus.
  • Master’s Degree in related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in related field, with supervisory or lead experience preferred.
  • Strong math and analytical skills.
  • Strong organization and attention to detail.
  • Strong scientific and engineering knowledge.
  • Strong and demonstrated tactical and strategic thinking and planning skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with ability to be an advisor to clients and build strong and sustainable relationships.
  • Skilled in team building and experience in effectively working with cross functional teams.
  • Demonstrated understanding and skills in project and program management, including 3rd parties.
  • Project lead experience preferred.
  • Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, ISO or related experience preferred.
  • Understanding of applicable computer systems, such as Microsoft Office, Lotus Notes and function specific software.
  • Experience and understanding of Energy Management Systems and Emergency Response and Evacuation Processes.
  • Excellent organizational and people skills, project management skills, with an ability to openly convey information to team members in a timely, concise manner.
  • Knowledgeable on developing and implementing maintenance plans and funding requests.
  • P&L accountability and/or contract-management and negotiation experience desired.
  • Strong leadership, oral, written communication, presentation skills, and relationship building skills. Strong customer focus and orientation.
  • Knowledge and experience with plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems, power distribution, local fire safety codes.
